Skill: CRAWLING
Drill: Mountain Crawl
Equipment needed: 3 bars and sets of cones
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their CRAWLING in this drill by being able to bear crawl over obstacles at different heights focusing on controlling their body and building core strength.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the students do not fall over or knock over one of the bars while crawling, the instructor will do three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to sucessfully crawl over the bars, making sure they crawl over them when the bars are close enough, and being mindful of the bars behind them as well; this works on their ability to process visual activities.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
3 bars set at various heights & one instructor to supervise.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students will bear crawl over the obstacles.
  • When the students crawl if their knees touch or if they fall then they have to start over.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Use your eyes to see where you are going.
  • Move one limb at a time making sure to clear each bar.
  • Do not hop over the bar because you may accidentally hit it.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
