Drill: Race Track
Equipment needed: Multiple Kicking Shields and Cones
Instructors needed: 2 to monitor
Description: In this game students will practice CRAWLING by demonstrating their ability to crawl for an extended period of time without giving up. This will challenge physically by requiring them to go beyond their own arm capabilities.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask the students what color their race car is, or what their car looks like. This will get the student thinking creatively and motivate them to play the game.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to finish their lap before the person behind them can catch them, while keeping an eye out for curves in the track. This works on their ability to respond quickly and perform the task accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have all of the shields an cones set up in a big circle.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will start in a bear crawl position.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the student will start crawling through the track.
  • When the 1st student gets about halfway through then the next student can try to catch them.
  • Once the student finishes 1 lap the. They can have a seat back with the instructor.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eyes on the track so you don’t hit a pad.
  • Be careful the pads are wobbly so don’t hit them.
  • Go as fast as you can with good technique.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student gets 2-3 turns.
