Drill: Pad Master
Equipment needed: 1 Kicking Shield per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice CRAWLING by demonstrating their bear crawl down the mat and get on top of a pad, once they are there they need to hold their balance while on top of the pad.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the students want to have good balance, they will stay on the pad for five seconds. If they want to have good balance and make their instructors proud, they will stay on the pad for seven seconds. If they want to have good balance, make their instructors proud, and make their parents proud, they will stay on the pad for ten seconds.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must be able to stay on the pad without the instructor knocking them off. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being the pad underneath them moving around and being unstable.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students will sit in front of the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in each line will get into the bear crawl position with the pad in front of them
  • When the instructor says “GO” the student will crawl down the mat to the pad.
  • When the student gets to the pad they will crawl on top of it, the instructor will then try to knock the student off the pad.
  • The student wants to stay on for 10 seconds.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your hands and feet on the ground.
  • Move fast down to the pad.
  • Don’t fall off the pad.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
