Skill: Crawling
Drill: Ring Bear
Equipment needed: 1 Ring and 1 Large Cone Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice CRAWLING by demonstrating their ability to bear crawl quickly with their eyes forward. This will challenge the students Physically by having them crawl a long distance while keeping their eyes on the cone across from them.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say words that sound like “go”, like “ghost” or “gopher”, in order to try and trick the students. This will help the students improve their auditory processing, as they must listen for the whole word and analyze what it means, instead of just listening for the sounds of a word.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to crawl down the mat with the ring around them. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they must crawl correctly while also making sure that they do not lose the ring.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the large cone across the mat from the students, the instructor will follow the student as they play.

  • The 1st student will go to their bear crawl position and the instructor will place the ring around their neck.
  • The student must crawl down the mat and place the ring on the cone and without their hands, and then crawl all the way back to their line.
  • If the student loses the ring then they must restart.
  • The 1st student to finish earns a ninja point for their team, team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
