Skill: CRAWLING
Drill: Bear Punches
Equipment needed: 2 Rings
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice CRAWLING by demonstrating their ability to hold their body up and demonstrate punches in an awkward position. This will challenge the students physically by demonstrating their ability to punch through a small ring while controlling their body so they do not fall.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can have the students race to see who can finish their turn under a certain time limit; The first round having no time limit, the second having ten seconds to finish, and the third round having seven seconds to finish.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – This works on their ability to do multiple things at one time, as the student has to stay in their bear crawl position while doing their punches at the same time.
Step 1
Divide your class into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need an instructor holding the 2 rings in front of the student.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will bear crawl 6’ down to the instructor and then freeze.
  • Once the student is close enough they will do punches through the rings.
  • The students will do 10 punches the ring closest to the hand is the ring the students should aim for.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eyes open to see the ring.
  • Do your best not to fall while crawling or punching.
  • Move as fast as you can!
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2 turns.
