Skill: CRAWLING
Drill: Cone Pass
Equipment needed: 1 Small Shuttle Cone per pair
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice CRAWLING by demonstrating army crawls down the mat while working with a partner. This will challenge them Physically and Socially as they constantly use their arms to pull themselves and as they wait for their partner to deliver the package.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can have the students race to see which teams can finish their turn under a certain time limit; The first round having no time limit, the second having ten seconds to finish, and the third round having seven seconds to finish.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to bear crawl down the mat with a cone in their hand to give to their partner. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they must crawl down the mat while keeping the cone in their hand.
Step 1
Divide your students into pairs.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting about 10’-12’ apart, with the instructor starting with one student.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will hold the small cone in their hands while laying on their belly with their head toward their partner.
  • The student will army crawl down the mat towards the other student.
  • The second student can’t move until they receive the package, once they do the students will switch spots 1 will sit 1 will crawl.
  • To make it more fun you can change the distances or make it a race between partners.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Wait for the cone to get to you before you move.
  • Reach with your arms as you crawl to move faster.
  • Don’t stop moving, you want to go as fast as you can.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2 turns.
