Drill: Bear Tag
Equipment needed: One wavemaster pad
Instructors needed: One per group
Description: The students will develop arm and core strength in this drill, as well as, develop good bear crawling technique by focusing on not using their knees.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say words that sound like “go”, like “gopher” or “go-kart”, in order to keep the students engaged and enhance their auditory processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to do their bear crawl that a fast speed for the whole duration of their turn. If they slow down, they will not be able to tag the other person, so they have to focus on crawling fast and turning fast. This works on their ability perform a task quickly and accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each group you will need one instructor. Stand the bag on the floor, and have one student on each side in bear crawl position.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When you say “go” they will crawl clockwise around the pad.
  • Try and catch the other person without letting your knees touch the floor.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Crawl fast without knees.
  • Keep your core strong.
  • Keep your eyes up.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns. On the third turn you can make it more fun by having them chase you!
