Drill: Drag the Pad
Equipment needed: One small pad per line
Instructors needed: One per line
Description: The students will army-crawl down the mat while dragging a pad with their foot. This will help the students build good core muscle development and spatial awareness
Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY
  • The instructor can say another word that sounds like “go” in order to trick the students, like “gopher” and “ghost”. This will further test their auditory processing, as they have to listen for the whole word and not just the sounds of the word.
Brain SKILLZ: DIVIDED ATTENTION
  • The students must be able to crawl down the mat with a pad underneath their feet. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they must crawl down the mat while keeping their legs on the ground in order to keep the pad underneath them.
Step 1
  • Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting up the Drill:
  • For each line you will need a small pad set on the ground.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You are going to get into an army crawl position and place your feet on top of the pad.
  • You will army crawl down the mat while dragging the pad with your feet.
  • Your goal is to not let your feet slip off the pad as you crawl.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your feet together.
  • Pull with your arms.
  • Keep your eyes up.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 3 turns.
