Description:
In this drill the students will challenge each other with a cross leg take down. This is a great drill for teaching your students how to do a cross leg take down in a simulated fighting situation.
Teaching SKILLZ: Healthy Competition
motivate students by turning each round into a race to see who can execute the cross leg take-down first with proper form and control.
Brain SKILLZ: Response Inhibition
students must resist the impulse to rush in recklessly; instead, they must pause just enough to engage with focus, balance, and safety before executing the take-down.
Step 1
Teach your students the proper way to do a cross leg take-down.
Step 2 – Explain the Rules
Divide your class into pairs and give each pair a number starting with number 1. Next, have them line up facing each other (in order) directly across from each other on the training deck.
The instructor will call out a number, and the two students assigned to that number will race to the middle of the training deck and grab each other while trying to take their partner down with a cross leg take-down.
For safety reasons, the instructor will stand right next to them and enforce good control.
The first student to take their partner down earns a point for their team.
Continue the drill calling out random numbers. The first team to reach 10 points wins.
Step 3
This is a great drill for simulating a situation where a bully might grab them and try to throw them to the ground. If done correctly and with safety and sportsmanship enforced your students will love this drill and ask to do it over and over.
