Skill: Reaction
Drill: Blocking Combos
Equipment needed: 2 foam noodles per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good REACTION by demonstrating their ability to do multiple different blocks against the instructor as they swing foam noodles to random sides and parts of the students bodies.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can swing the noodle, and yell the name of a block that they shouldn’t do. This will improve their auditory processing, as they must focus on the visual cue and disregard the verbal cue in order to not get tricked.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must be able to block quickly so they do not get hit with a pool noodle. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see and respond to visual cues, as they must be able to block correctly depending on how the noodle is being swung, and block quick enough so they do not get hit.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The student will have their hands in their chamber positions.
  • When the instructor swing the noodle to the head, torso, or legs the student will have to do the appropriate block.
  • The students goal is to do the correct block without getting hit.
