Equipment needed:
Two kicking mitts per instructor
Instructors needed:
Three
Description:
In this drill the students will build their flexibility. The students will compete in a flexibility race to test their flexibility. The more flexible they are, the faster they will complete this race.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can give the lines silly team names in order to motivate the students, like “hamburgers vs. hot dogs”. This will motivate the students to play the game with effort in order to score and win for their team.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must run to the middle once they hear their number called and do their stretch kicks. This works on their ability to respond to audio cues.
Step 1
Pair each student with a partner.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Assign each pair a number. Have them sit, in order, directly across the mat from their partner. Have two instructors stand in the middle of the mat holding kicking mitts back-to-back.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
I will call out a number. When your number is called, you must race to the middle of the mat and stretch-kick your instructor’s mitts at head level.
If you miss the mitt then it doesn’t count.
Once you hit the mitt five times with each leg then you must run back to your spot.
The first student to make it back to their spot the fastest earns a point for their team.
