Skill: Flexibility
Drill: Washing Machines
Equipment needed: 1 small square pad
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice FLEXIBILITY by demonstrating their ability to throw elbow strikes behind them. This will challenge them physically by requiring the students to stretch their muscles father then they thought they could.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – The instructor can give the students an age-appropriate category. Each time they hit the pad, the student must say something that belongs to that category, like a color or a superhero. This will keep the students engaged, as well as help connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must be able to turn and look behind themselves at their targets, and hit them with their elbows. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to turn and spot their target first, and then hit the pad.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students standing in front of the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will face away from the instructor.
  • The instructor will place the small pad in the center of their back at about shoulder level.
  • When the instructor counts the students will do alternating back elbow strikes trying to make their elbow hit the center of the pad.
  • They will continue to do this until they reach 10 reps.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Apply power on every elbow.
  • Use your eyes so that you hit the target.
  • Keep your elbows up to move smoother.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
