Skill: Fitness
Drill: Flexibility Freeze
Equipment needed: Some way to play music
Instructors needed: A Few to Monitor
Description: Students will work on their flexibility by dancing around and when they hear the music stop the must drop down into and middle split and hold it until they hear the music start playing again. This will challenge students emotional stage of development to be able to hold an uncomfortable middle split without saying how much it hurts or wiggling.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can have the students choose which leg they would like to use on the first round. On the next round they have to use the leg that they did not use, and on the final round they can pick either one. This will empower the students, as they will have some control over how they practice.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – This works on their ability to focus on a task for an extended period of time, as they must focus on lifting only their knee up and down for the full duration of their turn.
Step 1
Allow your students to spread out along on the mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Allow your students to spread out along on the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the music is playing the students may move around the mat and dance.
  • Once the students hear the music stop they must freeze and drop down to their lowest middle split.
  • If an instructor catches a student moving or talking, then they would be out.
  • Last student in wins that round.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • As soon as you here that music stop make sure you drop to your middle split as fast as possible.
  • To make sure you are getting better stretch your middle split as far as you can.
  • Have fun and test how flexible you can be even while dancing!
Step 5
