Skill: Flexibility
Drill: Chamber Lifts
Equipment needed: One Chair per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will be working on their FLEXIBILITY by stretching their muscles to lift their chamber leg up as many times as possible.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can have the students choose which leg they would like to use on the first round. On the next round they have to use the leg that they did not use, and on the final round they can pick either one. This will empower the students, as they will have some control over how they practice.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – This works on their ability to focus on a task for an extended period of time, as they must focus on lifting only their knee up and down for the full duration of their turn.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Put one chair in front of each line. Make sure each instructor has a clapper pad.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Students will come up and place one hand on the chair for balance.
  • They will then load your leg for a round kick.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the students will start pump their leg up and down trying to move only their knee.
  • One the next round have students use their other leg.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Lift Fast! Challenge yourself to go as fast as you can so your muscles can stretch out more.
  • Lift high! Get your leg up high as you can.
  • Don’t let your leg drop when you are chambering.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2 rounds.
