Skill: Speed
Drill: Get Down!
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: The students will practice their SPEED by racing each other across the mat.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say one number, and then point in the direction of another number to try and trick the students. This will test their auditory processing and visual processing, as they have to recognize the audio cue as correct and the visual cue as incorrect.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must be able to listen for the number the instructor calls out, run to the corresponding side, and get on the ground. This works on their ability to respond to audio cues, as they need to associate a number with a certain command.
Step 1
Line the students up on one side of the mat, lying on their stomachs.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Each side of the mat will be a different number, 1-4.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor calls a number, students must stand, run and get back down on the ground.
  • The last person to make it will be out and must sit on the wall.
  • The last person in is the winner.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Look where you are going, so you don’t crash into anyone.
  • Use your breaks; don’t slide across the mat.
  • Pay attention! Don’t let the instructor trick you and slow you down.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds.
