Skill: Speed
Drill: Be First
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor
Description: The students will practice having reactive speed by trying to be the first to perform a move based on numbered commands. Reactive speed is the ability to make quick, decisive choices. By having them match a number with a move, they have to make a decision quickly which builds focus and concentration.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor can ask the students if they want a blackbelt challenge, and if they want to be like a blackbelt, they can do a bigger combination, like four or five moves. This will motivate the students to get stronger, since they have a common goal of getting a blackbelt one day and picking a challenge will help them get there.
Brain SKILLZ:
“WORKING MEMORY – The student has to remember the order in which the combination is said in, and then they must do the combination in the correct order. This works on holding onto information while doing a task. ”
