Skill: Speed
Drill: Backfist Burn Out
Equipment needed: 1 small square pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good speed by being able to throw as many backfist as they can in a given amount of time.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say words that sound like “go”, like “gopher” or “ghost” in order to trick the students. This will improve their auditory processing, as they will have to listen for the whole word and analyze what it means, instead of listening for the sounds of a word.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The students must be able to do as many backfists as they can under a certain time limit. This works on their ability to complete a task over a period of time, as they must be able to more backfists than anyone else to be the winner, and they must strike for the full duration in order to accomplish this.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first students in each line will come up and place the hand they want to hit with in front.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” students will have to do as many back fist as they can in a given amount of time. Round 1 will be 10 seconds, round 2 is 15 seconds, and round 3 is 20 seconds.
  • Whichever ninja has the most backfist at the end of time gets a point for their team. Whichever team has the most points at the end wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your arm up as you are doing your backfist to build strength.
  • Hit the pad as hard as you can on each rep.
  • Don’t give up even if your arm starts to get sore.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
