Class 8 – Concentration

Ultimate Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: Super slides up and down the mat
  • Legs:Plyos up and down the mat
  • Abs: Stomach rolls up and down the mat
  • Core: reverse crab walks up and down the mat
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on CONCENTRATION.
  • CONCENTRATION means to have exclusive attention to the task at hand.

Here are the three CONCENTRATION tips that you will learn today:

1. CONCENTRATION with body mechanics – this includes coordination, balance, and proper movement. 2. CONCENTRATION with your mind – this includes your memory and focus. 3. CONCENTRATION with peers – this includes working in groups and also working through distractions.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

Blind Competition:

In this drill, the students will practice concentrating by performing various Martial Arts combinations while blindfolded.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor will do 5 push-ups if the student gets all the combinations correct.
  • Brain SKILLZ: AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student will work on auditory skills to perform the proper moves.

Brain Games:

In this drill the students work on building better CONCENTRATION by naming off things in random categories instead of counting repetitions.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES – The student gets to choose naming things while punching.
  • Brain SKILLZ: WORKING MEMORY – The student will perform moves while also thinking about names to call out.
Partner Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Seesaw stretch
  • Standing hamstring stretch
  • Straddle belt pull
  • Surfing stretch
Game – 3-minutes
  • Freeze Tag
