Class 7 – Speed

Dynamic Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: 1- arm Push-ups
  • Legs: Squat jump tucks
  • Abs: Leg raises
  • Core: Crazy crabs
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on SPEED.
  • SPEED means full, maximum, or optimum rate of motion

Here are the three SPEED tips that you will learn today:

1. Technical SPEED – optimum quality of your movements while maintain a maximum rate of motion. 2. Reactive SPEED – how quickly your brain can respond. 3. Explosive SPEED – non-stop, maximum motion of your body.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

1,2,3,4:

The students will practice SPEED by demonstrating their ability to demonstrate multiple variations of front kicks trying to be the 1st person to do each kick!
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can give the lines silly team names in order to motivate the students, like “hamburgers vs. hot dogs”. This will motivate the students to play the game with effort in order to score and win for their team.
  • Brain SKILLZ: SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to hear the instructor call out a number, connect the number to the appropriate technique they are supposed to do, and kick the pad correctly before the other students in order to get a point. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately.

Escape Relay:

The students will work on their ability to have great technical SPEED by escaping from stage 1 self-defense moves 1-3.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY – The instructor can say words that sound like “go”, like “go kart” or “snow” to keep the students engaged and improve their auditory processing.
  • Brain SKILLZ: LONG TERM MEMORY – The student must be able to remember how to perform the correct escape when the instructor grabs their hand.
Dynamic Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Half kneeling hamstring stretch
  • Kneeling sideways leg swing
  • Stretch outside crescent kick
  • Windmills
Game – 3-minutes
  • Team Dodge Ball
