Skill: Control
Drill: Power Punches
Equipment needed: 1 wavemaster top, 1 block per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will work on their CONTROL by learning how to increase the level of effort and power in each punch to make their block fly the farthest.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The student who hits their pad the farthest will get a point for their team, and the team with most of the points at the end of the game wins. The instructor can also challenge the students to beat their distance that they got on their previous turn as well.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see where the middle of the pad is, and hit only that part when the instructor says go, otherwise their pad will not make it as far. This works on their ability to remember visual information, as they have to remember to where the middle of the pad is in order to hit it.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have one Wavemaster top with a block set on top, and one instructor a few feet away per line.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see where the middle of the pad is, and hit only that part when the instructor says go, otherwise their pad will not make it as far. This works on their ability to remember visual information, as they have to remember to where the middle of the pad is in order to hit it.
  • Each instructor will watch to see where the blocks for their line go.
  • The student who can punch one of the two blocks the farthest will earn a point for their line.
  • The first line to reach 4 points wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Remember to punch with the correct part of the hand.
  • Yell loud when you punch the pad
  • For the most distance, punch straight instead of up, down, or sideways
Step 5
  • Continue until one of the lines reaches 4 points.
