Equipment needed:
1 kicking shield per line
Instructors needed:
1 per Line
Description:
In this drill the students will practice CONTROL by having a deep stance and not falling off the pad when shaken by the instructor.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – Trick the students by saying words that sound like “go” before they start.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must wait for the word “go” without getting tricked before they can run down and do their stance.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set 1 kicking shield on the ground in front of each line. Tell the students which stance they will be working on.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
When the instructor says “go” sink down into your stance on top of the pad
The instructor will then shake the pad back and forth for 10 seconds.
Stay on the pad in a low stance for as long as you can with your hands in chamber position.
You are “out” if you: Fall, Move your arms out of chamber, Stand up
On the next round, use a different stance!
Step 4 – Takeaways:
Breathe as you play so that you don’t get tired.
Bend your knees low so that you get stronger.
Keep your head up so you can have balance.
Step 5
Continue until everyone has 2-3 turns.
