Skill: CONTROL
Drill: Rock the Boat
Equipment needed: 1 kicking shield per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will practice CONTROL by having a deep stance and not falling off the pad when shaken by the instructor.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – Trick the students by saying words that sound like “go” before they start.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must wait for the word “go” without getting tricked before they can run down and do their stance.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set 1 kicking shield on the ground in front of each line. Tell the students which stance they will be working on.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” sink down into your stance on top of the pad
  • The instructor will then shake the pad back and forth for 10 seconds.
  • Stay on the pad in a low stance for as long as you can with your hands in chamber position.
  • You are “out” if you: Fall, Move your arms out of chamber, Stand up
  • On the next round, use a different stance!
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Breathe as you play so that you don’t get tired.
  • Bend your knees low so that you get stronger.
  • Keep your head up so you can have balance.
Step 5
