Description:
In this drill the students will race across the training deck and control their body to stop quickly in the middle of a small ring.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – Instead of saying “go”, the instructor can say words that sound similar, like “gopher” and “ghost” in order to keep the students engaged and improve their auditory processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must hear the instructor say “go”, and then race towards the ring. This works on their ability to process audio cues and respond accordingly.
Step 1
Divide your students into several lines on one side of the training deck.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, place a ring directly across the training mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
When the instructor says “go” the first student from each line will race to the middle of the ring across the training deck.
The first student to stand still with their feet together and hands by their side in the middle of the ring is the winner.
To make this drill challenging, have the student’s race backwards.
You can make it a fun competition by giving each line a team name and the fastest line gets a point for their team.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
Learn to have body control by stopping with precision in the middle of the ring
Step 5
Continue until each student has at least two turns.
