Drill: Knock, Knock
Equipment needed: 2 Kicking shields per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this Drill students will work on using their power to punch the pad and knock their instructor off the base.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor can ask the students to remember how long it took them to knock the instructor over. On the second round, the instructor can see if the students can knock them over in less time than they did on the first round.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must be able to punch the instructor quickly within a time limit in an attempt to knock them over. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as they only have ten seconds to do as many punches as they can, to knock the instructor over.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have 1 instructor stand on one kicking shield while holding the other shield firmly
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” punch the pad as hard as you can.
  • You will have 10 seconds to punch as many times as possible.
  • Keep punching until your knock your instructor off the pad or time runs out.
  • On the next round, you have to knock your instructor off the pad in less than 10 punches.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Have your hands away so they are ready to strike.
  • Keep your eyes on the pad, so you know when to hit.
  • Don’t give up make sure you try your best each time.
Step 5
  • Continue until everyone has 2-4 turns through the line.
