Skill: Control
Drill: Hit or Miss
Equipment needed: Two punching mitts per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice controlling their speed by trying to hit the pad before it is taken away. This will help build better reactions challenging them to not miss the pad.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask if the students want to go slow, medium, fast, or ninja fast. This will allow the students to choose their own difficulty that they are comfortable with. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must be able to punch or kick the pad quickly depending on the pad’s orientation. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to quickly decide which move is the correct one, and execute it before the two seconds is up.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the instrucotrs stand in front of the line with their two hand mitts on
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will flash the pad and count for 2 seconds then pull the pad back.
  • While the pad is flashed the student must punch or kick the mitt.
  • Have each student strike 5 times.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Punch when you see the pad.
  • Keep your hands in chamber.
  • Punch fast and hard.
  • The second time, only flash for one second to make it more challenging.
Step 5
  • Continue until everyone has three turns.
