Drill: Power Blocks
Equipment needed: 3 step blocks per line
Instructors needed: Multiple to monitor
Description: The students will practice having good CONTROL.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student falls off of the towers, then they have five jumping jacks.
Brain SKILLZ:
LONG TERM MEMORY – The student must remember how to correctly do their high block, middle block, and low block in order to do this drill, as the names of the blocks correspond with the heights of the towers.
Step 1
Have students form 2 teams
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The student will start in front of the smallest block; the instructor will call a level of the tower. (Low, Mid, High.)
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • They student must jump to that level of the tower.
  • They will then do the blocks that go with it, Low=Low Block, Mid=Middle Block, High=High Block.
  • On round 2 to they will get to different levels on the tower which means they must do another block as well.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Use 2 feet when you jump to land stronger.
  • Keep your head up to practice good balance.
  • Have strong blocks on every level.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has multiple turns.
