Skill: CONTROL
Drill: Kick the Block
Equipment needed: Two slammer pads and two blocks per line
Instructors needed: 1 per line
Description: The students will build their control by side kicking a block off the stack of pads. This will help them build good chambers in their side kick.
Teaching SKILLZ: EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION
If the student is able to knock all the blocks down correctly, while kicking with the proper part of the foot, then the instructor will do five pushups.
Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING
The students must be able to side kick the top block without hitting the others. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as the students must be able to aim their foot for a small target, and control their body so they don’t knock over the other blocks.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting up the Drill
  • For each line you will need a stack of slammer pads with two blocks stack on top and an instructor on the other side of the pads.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will side kick the top block off the pads, hitting the block with your heel.
  • Your goal is to control your kick by kicking the top block off the pad and not the bottom block.
  • You will do this three times.
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Point your heel at the block.
  • Hit the block with your heel only.
  • Re-chamber your knee fast.
Step 5
  • Continue until every student has three turns.
