Skill: Control
Drill: Frozen Statue
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: One
Description: In this drill the students are going to play ninja freeze, but they must have enough control of their body to freeze in attention stance.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say things like “One Tuesday morning”, or “Achoo!” in order to trick the students. This will improve their auditory processing further, as they have to listen for the whole phrase and not just the first part.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students have to listen for the whole phrase, “1-2-3-ninja freeze”, and not just the first part, or they might get tricked. Once they hear “freeze”, the students have to stand strong as quickly as they can. This drill works on their ability to respond to verbal commands quickly.
Step 1
Have your student’s line up on one side of the training deck.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Stand on the opposite side of the deck with your back facing the students.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When you are ready, say the following: “1 – 2 – 3 – NINJA FREEZE!”
  • While you are counting, the students will start running toward you.
  • Once you say the word “FREEZE!” turn around and look at the students.
  • The students must freeze at attention before you turn around and look at them.
  • If they are moving, or not standing with their feet together and hands by their side then they must go back to the starting line and sit down.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Learn to stop and go by controlling body movements.
  • To make class entertaining, you can let the winner be the new counter.
Step 5
  • Continue the drill until one of the students touches you without getting caught moving. If you catch everyone moving, then start the game over.
