Skill: Control
Drill: Freeze Stance
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Multiple to monitor
Description: The students will work on their CONTROL by trying to be the last person standing in this stance competition.
Teaching SKILLZ:
The students can choose what stance they would like to do during the game, it can be their favorite stance or they can switch between all of them. This gives the students power over what they do during the game, which in turn will motivate them to do their best as they are choosing what they get to do.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must be able to hear the music play and the music stop. Once the music stops, they have to do their middle stance as quickly as they can. This drill works on their ability to process audio cues.
Step 1
Students will get one half of the mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For the group you will need multiple instructors to monitor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Students will dance when the music comes on.
  • When the music stops, students will have to freeze in a stance.
  • If a student moves when the music is off, they are then out.
  • When the music starts again, students will continue to dance.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Have fun and dance around.
  • Make sure you have deeply bent knees in your stances.
  • Make your stance strong so that you don’t move.
Step 5
  • Continue until you play 2 games.
