Skill:
Control
Drill:
Battle Punches
Equipment needed:
1 spot dot per ninja/1 small square pad per line
Instructors needed:
1 per Line
Description:
Student will punch a pad out of the instructor’s hand and mark where it lands – trying to make it land the farthest from the instructor.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask the students to pick a partner in ten seconds. Depending on the size of the class and the number of instructors, you can combine these partnerships into lines of four. This gives them the chance to work with the people they want to work with, which can motivate them to win against their friend even more. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to punch the pad farther than the other people in their line. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities and make sense of what they see, as the students have to spot the middle of the target and punch strong for the pad to go far.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Students will sit with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will hold up the small square pad and the student will get ready to punch it.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the student will punch the pad, once it lands the student will run to the pad and place the spot dot where it landed.
  • They will then run back and with the pad for the instructor.
  • This process will continue until each person has placed their spot dot, the farthest dot is the winner.
  • Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Hit the middle of the pad to make it go farther.
  • Hands up to help your punch move faster.
