Equipment needed:
One kicking target, ring, and two slammer pads per line
Instructors needed:
1 per line
Description:
The students will build their control by front kicking a target while not hitting a stack of pads below their foot. This will help the students build good chambers in their front kicks.
Teaching SKILLZ: Up the Rep
Encourage students to increase speed and intensity with each round—“Let’s see if you can go even faster this time without touching the stack!”
Brain SKILLZ:
Students must stay focused throughout the escalating reps, maintaining precision and control while resisting the urge to rush and lose form.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting up the Drill
For each line you will need a stack of targets with a ring on one side and an instructor holding a kicking target on the other side.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
You will stand in the ring.
You will kick the target once with each leg. Then you will kick the pad two times with each leg, followed by three times with each leg.
Your goal is to control your kick by kicking the target as quickly as possible without touching the stack of pads with your foot as you chamber and re-chamber.
Step 4 – Takeaways
Bring your knee above the pads.
Kick the pad hard and fast.
Don’t forget to re-chamber.
Step 5
Continue until everyone has three turns.
On the second turn and third turn have them kick quicker on each rep.
