Skill: CONTROL
Drill: Sneaky Ninjas
Equipment needed: 1 blindfold/1 block per line
Instructors needed: 1 per line
Description: Students will practice their CONTROL by demonstrating their ability to move down the mat controlling their footsteps so that the instructor can’t hear them moving.
Teaching SKILLZ: Redirection
If a student gets “found,” encourage them with a playful challenge like, “Try walking even softer this time—ninja style!” This keeps the mood light while reinforcing focus.
Brain SKILLZ: Attention Control
Students must maintain concentration and body control for a sustained period to sneak quietly and successfully grab the block.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting up the Drill
  • Students will sit with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will walk about 8’ away and place the block behind them and the blindfold on.
  • The student will then try to sneak down the mat and pick up the block without the instructor hearing them.
  • If the instructor hears the student they will lift off their blindfold and say “found you” which will send the student back to the beginning.
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Walk on the ball of your foot to make less noise.
  • Take your time to sneak up on the instructor.
  • Get the pad so try your hardest to get there.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
