Skill: DEXTERITY
Drill: Basics in a Box
Equipment needed: Four small cones per line
Instructors needed: One per Line
Description: The students will build dexterity in their blocks/ strikes and stances while staying within a box marked off with cones.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student steps outside of the box, then they will have ten pushups. If all the students in the line do not step outside of the box during their turn, then the instructor will have twenty pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to complete their techniques with proper stances, while staying inside of the box. This works on their ability to focus on more than one thing at one time, as they have to focus on doing their moves well and quickly, while making sure that their stance does not go outside of the box.
Step 1
Divide you students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will mark a box with four cones.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will execute the appropriate block and stance, staying within the cones.
  • You will do this four times, alternate hands and feet each time.
  • Your goal is to land your block/ strike while landing your stance at the same time.
  • Continue for three rounds.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Blocks, Stances, and Kicks staying within the cones
Step 5
  • You can alternate techniques on each round, or have them do more reps on each turn.
