Skill: Dexterity
Drill: Circus Kicks
Equipment needed: 4 wave master tops, and 4 cones per line.
Instructors needed: 1 per line.
Description: Students will practice having good dexterity by being able to throw rapid fire round kicks, hitting cones while spinning in a circle.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can turn it into a game, where they can race to see which student can complete their turn the quickest. The first student to knock over their cones without putting their foot down gets a point for their line.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must spot the cones and kick them off the pads, without hitting anything else. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to spot their target as they are moving in a circle.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Setup Wavemasters with cones on top
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first students in each line will come up and stand in the middle of the four wave master tops.
  • When the instructor says “go” the student will pick up one leg and throw rapid fire round kicks spinning in a circle trying to knock each cone off the pads.
  • If the student is able to knock off all the cones on the first round, then on the second round have them use their other leg. If they are able to do it again then you can have the added challenge of using double 45’s to hit the cones.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your knee up so that you have good balance.
  • Pivot on your bottom foot so that you can move.
  • Look at each cone so you know what you’re hitting!
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
