Drill: Stay Low
Equipment needed: A noodle for each line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will work on their DEXTERITY by demonstrating front stances down the mat. They will have to maintain the height of their stance as they move down the mat.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student’s head touches the noodle, they must do five pushups before they can continue going down the mat.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to move down the mat while making sure the noodle does not touch their head. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at once, as they must focus on walking down the mat while keeping their knees bent so they do not touch the noodle.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The instructor will hold the noodle in front of the line
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students will demonstrate front stances while going down the mat
  • The instructor will put the noodle right above their head
  • If they touch the noodle they have to restart from the beginning
  • The first student to run back to the line and sit down with get a point for their line
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Take your time so you can make it to the other side without hitting the noodle
  • Cheer on your teammates so their can do their best
  • Run fast so you can get back to your line to get a point
Step 5
  • Continue until one team has scored five points
