Skill: Dexterity
Drill: Combo Bash
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per line
Description: Students will practice having good dexterity by being able to remember which side to use and which move they picked correctly.
Teaching SKILLZ:
On the second round, the instructor can have the students say a color, or a superhero as they do their move. The student will have to do the previous move while naming the previous color or superhero before they can add the next move. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, as well as challenge their working memory further as they have one more thing remember while they do this drill.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must be able to remember the combination that they made, as well as remember to pick a different move than the last in the correct direction. This works on their ability to hold onto information while doing a task.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Instructors lin up at start of the line.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first students in each line will come up and the instructor will say right or left.
  • Whatever side the instructor calls out, the ninja will have to do any of their martial arts moves using that side. Ex. “Right”, the student could do a right front kick.
  • From there the instructor will say right or left again. The student will then have to repeat the first move they did and add on whichever side move the instructor called out next.
  • This will continue until the student has reached five moves.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Think about the right and left side of your body.
  • Be as loud as you can when you’re saying the moves.
  • Make sure that you show good technique in every move!
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
