Teaching SKILLZ:
SKILLZ: TRICKERY – The instructor can say things like “ghost” and “gogurt” in order to try and trick the students. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must listen for when the instructor says “go”, see the targets on the side of the instructor, and kick the targets while alternating legs as quick as they can so they can be the first line to finish. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have 1 instructor per line wearing the chest protector
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Start by holding hands with your instructor in a “double high five” manner.
  • When the instructor says “go” you will perform 10 round kicks on the instructor alternating legs.
  • Your goal is to practice proper hip turn and pivot while being the first line to finish.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Pivot when you chamber
  • Turn your belt on each kick
  • Point your toes so you hit with your instep
Step 5
  • Continue for multiple round so everyone gets a chance to practice their kicks
