Drill: Shrimp Relay
Equipment needed: 1 Small Pad per line
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: The students will practice their EXECUTION with their shrimping by competing against other teams to be the first to finish.
Step 1
  • Divide your class into lines.
Step 2
  • You will need 1 small pad per line. Spread each line down the mat so everyone has an equal amount of space.  
Step 3 – Explain the rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” the first student in line will begin.
  • They will shrimp to the next person and hand off the pad.
  • That person will do the same passing it off to the next person.
  • The last person in line will go the end of the mat, stand up and run back to the beginning.
  • The first team to rotate through so that each teammate gets a chance to be the “first person” wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Make sure to keep two hands on the block at all times.
  • Remember to bend at the waist when shrimping.
  • When you reach the next person, stay there.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds.
