Class 2 – Punching

Active Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: Seal-ups
  • Legs: Jack-in-the-box
  • Abs: Reverse curl-ups
  • Core: Spider ups
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on PUNCHING.
  • Who can tell me what PUNCHING means?

Here are the three PUNCHING tips:

1. Keep your fists tight. 2. Pull your other arm tight to your side. 3. Watch where you are punching.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

Punch and Sit:

The student will punch the target four times and then sit in the ring. This will help the students build control, gross motor skills, and spatial awareness.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – Make it a competition to see who can punch and sit the fastest.
  • Brain SKILLZ: SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student will quickly punch when the instructor says ‘go’ and then sit quickly.

C-A-T, D-O-G:

In this drill the students will punch the focus mitts as they spell the word “cat” and “dog.” This is a great drill for teaching the students how to spell while also learning how to punch.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student can spell 3 words in a row correctly, then the instructor will do 3 push-ups.
  • Brain SKILLZ: DIVIDED ATTENTION – This student will focus on punching while also spelling.
Active Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Hand throws
  • Hip rotations
  • Knee wobbles
  • Sitting toe touches
Game – 3-minutes
  • Dodge Ball
