Equipment needed:
Multiple rings and a way to play music
Instructors needed:
Multiple to monitor
Description:
The students will practice MOMENTUM by demonstrating their ability to quickly get to a ring and do the correct basic move so they can stay in the game.
Teaching SKILLZ: Trickery
occasionally pause the music and call out a surprise variation (like “punch in a kick ring” or “stance in a block ring”) to challenge students’ listening skills and keep them on their toes.
Brain SKILLZ: Cognitive Flexibility
students must adapt quickly to changes, process which section of the mat they’re in, and adjust their technique to match the correct category while moving fast.
Step 1
Divide your students into 2 big groups
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill
Have multiple rings set in line set on each side of the mat. (Amount of rings should be = to number of students)
Step 3 – Explain the Rules
The ring will be spread out in a straight line on each side of the mat. Add about a 3’-4’ gap somewhere between the rings on both sides.
You should have 4 different sections of rings on the mat representing our blocks, strikes, kicks, and stances.
When the music is on the student will run around the outside of the mat, but when it goes off they must run to a ring and do the a basic technique that corresponds with that section.
On the 1st run through everyone will have a ring, after that round ends the instructor will take 1 ring away, this will happen after every stop of the music.
If a students does an incorrect technique they will have to give up their spot to the person that did not get a ring.
Eventually the game will get down to 2 people battling for 1 ring who ever gets to it and does the correct basic will win.
Step 4 – Takeaways
Be sure to watch where you’re going
Get to the ring as quickly as you can
Perform your basics with the best technique possible
