Drill: Pop Roll Race
Equipment needed: A clapper pad for each line
Instructors needed: One per line
Description: Students will work on their MOMENTUM by preforming a pop front kick out of a front roll. They have to keep the momentum under control and be accurate with their kicks in this challenge
Teaching SKILLZ: Choices
let students choose whether to kick with their left or right leg after the roll, giving them ownership while still requiring control of momentum.
Brain SKILLZ: Working Memory
students must remember the sequence (roll → pop up → front kick → run back) and execute it smoothly under time pressure.
Step 1
Split the class into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill
The instructors will have a clapper pad in front of their line
Step 3 – Explain the Rules
  • The student will start when the instructor says “GO!”
  • They will preform a front roll and follow it up with a pop front kick on the target
  • They will continue all the way down the mat
  • Once the reach the end they will run back and give the next person in line a high five
  • The first team to get all the way through the line will get a point
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Roll quick so you can transition into your pop front kick easier
  • Jump high so the pad will be easier to hit
  • Run fast so you can buy your team more time in the race
