Skill: HOPPING
Drill: Number Hops
Equipment needed: 1 Yellow Bar
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their HOPPING by hopping side to side without stepping on the yellow bar and only doing the number of hops given.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say “go” instead of saying a number to trick the student, or the instructor can say things like “tree”, or a huge number like “one billion” to keep the student engaged and enhance their auditory processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must be able to hear the number one two or three, recognize what they heard, and do the correct amount of jumps.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The instructor will call out a number. 1, 2, or 3.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The student must do that many hops side to side without hitting the bar.
  • The student has to do 2 different hops before his/her turn is over.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your feet together.
  • Bring both knees up.
  • Keep your body sideways.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
