Skill: HOPPING
Drill: Little Hop, Big Hop
Equipment needed: 2 kicking shields, 2 small targets
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on HOPPING by learning how to alternate the amount of power they put into each jump by using short and long jumps. This drill will help better their understanding of power and distance.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – Instead of counting normally, the instructor can count by colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category in order to connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see the distance between the pads and the size of the pads, and understand the power needed in order to jump over the pad without using too much or too little power.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an Instructor. Lay the pads on the floor alternating sizes.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You are going to jump over the pads.
  • Try not to fall on the pads.
  • Try not to touch the pads.
  • Keep your feet together when you jump.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your feet together.
  • Bring both knees up.
  • Land strong.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 3 turns.
