Description:
The students will practice their hopping skills by jumping from side to side down the rings while keeping their body facing forward. This will help them build good gross motor skills and balance.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – As the student is hopping, the instructor can have the student name the color of the ring they are stepping in. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain and keep the student engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must be able to remember the steps required in this drill, as they have hop in every ring sideways, then do five kicks, then hop all the way down to the other side and do five kicks as well.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each group you will need to set four rings on the mat in one straight line.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
You are going to hop sideways down the rings.
When you reach the last ring, you will do five kicks.
Next you will hop back down the rings again and do five kicks when you reach the last ring.
Your goal is to try and keep your feet together as you hop.
