Skill: HOPPING
Drill: Stay on the Pad
Equipment needed: One slammer pad per group
Instructors needed: One per group
Description: In this drill the students will try to do as many squat jumps on the slammer pad as possible -without falling. This is a great drill for building balance and increasing leg strength.
Teaching SKILLZ: UP THE REP
  • Encouraging students to beat their previous number of squat jumps pushes them to elevate their performance in a fun and motivating way.
Brain SKILLZ: ATTENTION CONTROL
  • Staying balanced on the pad while repeatedly jumping requires the student to maintain concentration and control to avoid falling.
Step 1
  • Divide your class into several groups.
Step 2 – Setting up the Drill:
  • Pick one student to go first. See how many squat jumps they can do while landing on the slammer pad with both feet.
Step 3 – For reference:
  • 3 to 5 jumps in a row (landing on both feet) is average
  • 6 to 9 is above average
  • Over 10 is excellent
Step 4
  • Continue until each student has a turn.
Step 5
  • On the second round, make it a contest to see who can do as many squat jumps as possible without falling.
