Skill: HOPPING
Drill: Rabbit Race
Equipment needed: 5 rings per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice HOPPING by demonstrating their ability to quickly hop in rings without falling. This will challenge the students physically by requiring them to hop quickly down the mat without falling.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – See which team can finish their turns the fastest. The instructor can give the team silly names, like “hamburgers vs. hot dogs” in order to have the students more motivated to win as a team.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to hop into each ring quickly, while not missing one or messing up their hops, and give the instructor a high five as soon as they complete their hops. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set up the rings staggered going down the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the rings.
  • When the instructor says “GO”, the student will quickly hop through the rings.
  • When the student reaches the instructor, they must give them a high 5, then they must hop back through the rings.
  • Once the 1st student gets back then the next student can go.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Hop as fast as you can.
  • Keep your feet together even though you’re moving fast.
  • Keep your head up as you’re hopping.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
