Drill: Bunny Hop Race
Equipment needed: 1 ring per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice HOPPING by demonstrating their ability to do multiple hops down the mat trying to be the 1st person to get to their ring.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say another word that sounds like “go” in order to trick the students, like “gopher” and “ghost”. This will further test their auditory processing, as they have to listen for the whole word and not just the sounds of the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students have to race to the ring in front of them when the instructor says “go”. This works on their ability to respond to verbal commands quickly.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students will have a seat in front of the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in each line will stand up.
  • The instructor will say “GO” the 1st person will start to hop with their feet together down the mat.
  • Once they get to the ring across from them then they will stop.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your feet together as you hop.
  • Keep going so you can win
  • Take big hops so you can move faster.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
