Skill: HOPPING
Drill: Elevator Hops
Equipment needed: 3 Slammer Pads Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice HOPPING by demonstrating their ability to hop on an obstacle that gets steadily higher.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – While hopping, the instructor can count by different colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category instead of using numbers. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to hop onto the pad without falling off multiple times in a row, at different levels. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as the students must be able to see how far and high they need to jump in order to land on the pad without falling.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You are going to start on the lowest level and do 3 hops
  • Then we will add one more pad and do 3 more hops
  • We will do the same on the 3rd level.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your feet together
  • Bring your knees up when you jump
  • Land strong and try not to fall off
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has two turns.
