Drill: Hop to it
Equipment needed: Numbered dots 1 – 5
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on HOPPING to a specific number. This will help the students develop spatial awareness between the numbers and each other.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can award a point to the student who go to the dot the fastest, while hopping correctly. The students want to get as many points as they can.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must hear the instructor call out a number, and hop to the correctly numbered dot. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as they need to hear the instructor and spot the dot in order to play this game correctly.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need numbered dots 1-5. Spread them out evenly around the mat/square.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will call a number and you must hop to the number.
  • You must keep your feet together while you are hopping.
  • Make sure to leave enough space for your friends.
  • Try not to fall when you hop.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Take big jumps.
  • Keep your feet together.
  • Keep your eyes up.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 3 turns.
