Drill: 110
Equipment needed: Metronome beat; Bo/Student
Instructors needed: Several to coach
Description: The students will improve their CADENCY by increasing the tempo of their combos until they are performing at or above 110 beats per minute.
Step 1
  • Divide your class into even lines and spread out on the mat.  
Step 2
  • Students will review combos 1-3 with the instructor.  
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Students will have 90 seconds to rep the combos as many times as they can at 80 beats per minute.
  • Students will repeat the round at 90 beats per minute.
  • Students will increase the tempo by 10 bpm each round until the class has reached 110.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • This is a personal challenge; try to be better than you were by the end of the drill, don’t compare yourself to the class.
  • Pay attention to your stances and hand positioning from the 1st round.
  • Take a deep breath before you start your combos.
Step 5
  • Continue for several rounds using other combos from the form.
