Skill: LISTENING
Drill: Hotdogs & Hamburgers
Equipment needed: 2 focus mitts per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice having good LISTENING by demonstrating their ability to do multiple punches but instead of using right and left they will name their hands hamburger and hotdog. This will challenge the students mentally to listen for the food so that they know which hand to punch with.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The 1st student in each line will stand up.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will name the students hands hamburger and hotdog.
  • They will then pre-frame which hand punches where.
  • The student will the listen for the instructor to call out one of the foods and the student must punch with the correct hand.
  • They will do that 5 times and then they will go to the end of the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Listen so you can hit the pads fast
  • Look good as you do your strikes
  • Keep your hands up before you punch.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
